The Legacies By Jessica Goodman

5/5 :) I enjoyed the book a lot. It felt like a mystery thriller. Especially in between character POVs when the book would have a snippet from the scene of the dead person. I felt as though I was a detective figuring it out throughout the book. Once I was able to finally sit down and read, I could not put it down. Two hours later, the book was finished. I physically wasn't able to put it down until I figured out who died and what truly happened. The plot of the book was very intriguing! I liked the secrecy and mystery of the elite. The dynamic of the friend group felt real and added a sense of humanity to the characters. Having the big secret and then receiving snippets of what it could be throughout the book had me pulling out the detective in me to try and figure it out. 🤣 Once the big reveal happened, my jaw completely dropped, and I realized how many signs were throughout the book. I could've totally seen it coming, but somehow, I didn't! Personal opinion: I feel like...

Hold Back the Tide by Melinda Salisbury

4.7/5 Spice Free If you're not a big fan of watching horror movies or not like anything to do with horror. Don't worry, because this book is the type of horror that leans more into a thriller, but you won't jump while your sitting. (I enjoyed it and I can't even watch a movie meant for kids that has any type of scare) "In my experience, a murderer is much more likely to kill you if you make them angry. Right now, my father is furious with me. " 4.7 because it doesn't reach the 5 category for me. Any reason? I have no idea. It just doesn't feel like a 5. This book is 100% worth the read. I could barely put it down. I suspected the plot twist towards the end, but never-less when it came I was still left surprised. The story does have a sort of plot change in the middle—don't get discouraged as this change is explained later on by Alva's father. And it's also kind of an exciting change to the story.  The characters and plot was well thought o...

Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Book Rating  4.7/5 This book was Spice Free, but there was some kissing if you count that. What to expect: Slow burn romance, optimistic girl and a morally gray guy, dual POV, heads hanging from the office ceiling, magical monsters, otherworldly powers, crazy plot twist that will cause your jaw to drop, and most importantly, a cute frog with a crown. CW: Blood, death, battle, serious injury, extreme pain, familial estrangement, death of a sibling in backstory, child abandonment in backstory, and sexual assault in backstory. "His body, his power, settled in her presence. There and still deadly, but it welcomed her." The reason why I rated this book a 4.7 out of 5 is because it doesn't deserve a 4.5, but for me, it doesn't make it all the way up to 5. The writing is great. Sure it may feel a little slow at times, but even if it's slow I still had the feeling of 'I can't wait to see what's on the next page'. And also, you can see characters progress t...

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

Book Rating  5/5 This book is Spice Free (there is some kissing though) What to expect: I'll do anything for my sister, fear is non existent for our main character here, secret underworld empire, lots of daggers, a revolution, stealing, and a little bit of found family. "I've never been able to fight your battles. I've not been able to lift my hand to protect you. I cannot risk dragging my Guild into war." His eyes are burning with emotion. "But if he kills you, I'll take his head from his body and I'll set it on a pike in the middle of the Lords' table in the Miracle Court, and none will ever take it down. There it will rot, the worms will eat it to bone, and all who see it will remember you." His voice breaks. "Even if Corday asks my life of me in return, I'll do it. I swear." Pg. 369 If this isn't a proclamation of love, then I don't know what is.  A little context to the quote: He's a high ranking member in the ...

Book rating  4.5/5 This book is Spice Free Tropes: love triangle, heist, time travel, I want to kill all of your kind but you, soulmates, magical underworld, lovers to enemies to lovers, rival families, and surprises that you'll never see coming. "Real monsters look like me and you." This is my personal opinion on the book: I really enjoyed the book. You know those characters that are ...
